Pendarovski: Western Balkans does not need symbolism, but a concrete political decision from the EU

(Patria) - The President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, believes that the Western Balkans does not need political symbolism, but a concrete political decision from the EU.

"If it truly has the ambition to be a geopolitical player, the EU must first complete and secure its European geopolitical space through the integration of the Western Balkans," Pendarovski wrote on Facebook.

He also points out that a proactive approach is needed, instead of a reactive one, from both the Western Balkan countries and the EU itself.

"Our countries must redouble their efforts for essential European reforms necessary for the rule of law and functional and responsible institutions.

At the same time, the European Union must show more concern for the region," Pendarovski said in a speech at the Balkan Leadership Conference, parts of which he published on social media.

The conference was held yesterday in Skopje, organized by the Podgorica Club and the Universal Peace Federation.
