Pendarovski is the new president of North Macedonia

SKOPJE, (Patria) - The candidate of the Macedonian right, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, has conceded victory to her opponent, pro-European politician Stevo Pendarovski, in the Macedonian presidential elections held on Sunday. 

As reported by agencies, the results show Pendarovski's victory, Siljanova said at a press conference, adding that she, as the VMRO DPMNE candidate, does not feel like she has lost the battle.

“The result shows that the Macedonian opposition must be recognized as an important factor for further development,” stated Siljanovska-Davkova.

According to the latest preliminary results, after 99.77% of the votes were counted, it was determined that Pendarovski received 51.68% and Siljanovska-Davkova 44.72% of the voters' ballots.

European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn congratulated the candidate of the Macedonian ruling coalition, Stevo Pendarovski, on his victory in the presidential elections.

“I look forward to continuing cooperation on the EU reform agenda in the context of last year's Council conclusions which open the way for the start of accession negotiations in June 2019,” Hahn wrote on Twitter.

He emphasized that North Macedonia can count on the permanent support of the European Union.
