OSMANI MAKES DECISION: Elections in Kosovo postponed

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani announced that she has postponed early elections in four municipalities in northern Kosovo, due to the lack of security for their holding.

After consultations with representatives of political entities, Osmani stated that her proposal was to postpone the elections and that it was decided by consensus to move their holding from December 18 to April 2023, while the exact date will be determined tonight or tomorrow.

Osmani said that she made the decision based on a situation report she received from security bodies, the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency.

She also said that the Central Election Commission met behind closed doors last night due to the sensitivity of the material they discussed. The CEC also forwarded its report to her with a request to be taken into account when making a decision regarding the postponement of the elections.

“All representatives of political parties agree that the most sacred thing is the life of our citizens, which must be ensured and protected at all costs,” Osmani said.

She added that despite the fact that the Kosovo Police has the necessary capacities, masked gangs have managed to intimidate citizens so that they do not feel free to vote, and this is also evidenced by the withdrawal of some registered candidates for these elections, Kosovo media report.
