Opposition MPs visibly damaged parliamentary benches with hour-long banging

(Patria) - The banging of tiles by opposition MPs during Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković's annual report on the Government's work left visible damage on the parliamentary benches, the Croatian Parliament services have determined.

Yesterday, the opposition accompanied Plenković's hour-long speech in the Croatian Parliament with loud banging on the benches, dissatisfied that the presiding officer Željko Reiner had interrupted their intention to prolong the time until the Prime Minister's report by constantly demanding breaks.

"A review of the parliamentary benches revealed visible damage in the form of scratches, minor and major dents," announced the Croatian Parliament's Media Service.

It then individually listed the places where damage was found.

Damage was found in the seats of: Krešo Beljak, Sandra Benčić, Sabina Glasovac, Bojan Glavašević, Nikola Grmoja, Domagoj Hajduković, Ivana Kekin, Marin Miletić, Anka Mrak Taritaš, Romana Nikolić, Dalija Orešković, Božo Petrov, Marijana Puljak, Sanja Radolović, Nino Raspudić, and Urša Raukar Gamulin.

"So far, we have not recorded a case of material damage to parliamentary property in this form and in this way by parliamentary MPs.

As the parliamentary services are unable to make an independent assessment of the damage, a professional assessment will be required, after which repairs will be carried out in accordance with professional recommendations," the parliamentary Media Service announced.

In the past 30 years, the Croatian Parliament has been the scene of various actions and performances by MPs seeking to draw attention to their appearances, bringing various props, occupying the podium, and the like, but hour-long banging on the benches while the Prime Minister addresses the Parliament has not been recorded before, Hina reports.

After submitting the report, Plenković told the media that he hoped the parliamentary inventory had not suffered any major damage due to the banging of tiles on the benches, calling the opposition's action destruction, primitivism, and exclusivity, and calling those who were banging "pot-bangers and clatterers".
