Opposition demands Vulin's dismissal from BIA leadership due to US sanctions

(Patria) - MPs of the National Assembly of Serbia continued to consider several proposed laws and international loan agreements, including amendments to the Law on Planning and Construction, on the legalization of buildings, as well as on financial support for families with children.

They have a total of 30 items on their agenda. Amendments to the Law on Air Traffic, Energy, Railways, Employment of Foreigners, as well as the Law on Special Conditions for the Implementation of the Housing Construction Project for Security Forces Members are being considered. The agenda also includes a proposal to elect Slavica Đukić-Dejanović from the Socialist Party of Serbia as the Minister of Education in the Serbian government.

Srđan Milivojević from the Democratic Party asked when Aleksandar Vulin, the director of BIA, who was blacklisted by the US, would be dismissed.

"Sanctions have been imposed on the Director of the Security Information Agency by the United States Department of the Treasury, which, among other things, suspects him of some of the most serious criminal offenses such as drug and arms trafficking and abuse of public office. For the first time in history, as Aleksandar Vučić, the former president of the Serbian Progressive Party, likes to say, such sanctions have been imposed on a director and head of a security service, and this has not been recorded in the world. This has not happened even in Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Panama, Mexico, countries recognized as cocaine producers whose product is further distributed worldwide through illegal channels, nor has it happened in countries known as illegal opium producers such as Afghanistan and Myanmar," he said.
