
(Patria) - A stormy weather accompanied by heavy rain and lightning strikes hit the Osijek area during the night, causing numerous interventions for Osijek firefighters, while on the Đakovo area, lightning strikes caused fires on two farms.
The Osijek Emergency Center 112 reported receiving over 30 calls about water in basements, which led to the engagement of the Osijek Public Fire Department and several volunteer fire departments for pumping.
Firefighters are on the ground and working constantly, but for now, there are no reports of more serious material damage or injuries, the Emergency Center 112 noted.
The Osijek-Baranja police reported that lightning strikes late last night ignited hay bales on farms in Tomašanci and Marijanci, in the Đakovo area.
At the farm in Tomašanci last night, around 11:20 PM, a fire broke out on hay bales after a lightning strike. Approximately 2,500 bales were ignited, and the fire was extinguished by members of the volunteer fire departments Gorjani and Tomašanci.
Almost simultaneously, after a lightning strike, a fire broke out at the farm in Marijanci, igniting about a thousand hay bales. The fire was extinguished by members of the DVD Marijanci, and an investigation will follow, the police stated.
