German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has jeopardized peace in Europe due to the Russian annexation of Crimea, writes the Bulgarian news agency, reports the Patria agency.
Speaking after the G20 summit in Brisbane, Merkel stated that the West had to act decisively because Putin's freedom of political power was a threat to other countries.
She condemned the Russian annexation of Crimea in March, emphasizing that it is contrary to international law. On the sidelines of the G20 summit, Merkel and Putin spoke, but she is of the opinion that Russia can apply its policy towards Ukraine to countries like Moldova, Serbia, and Georgia.
According to German Der Spiegel, Merkel said it is important for Europe and the US to adopt a common approach. She ruled out military intervention and stated that a diplomatic solution to the problem must be sought.
Der Spiegel published confidential documents from the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicating that the German government is disturbed by Russia's aggressive anti-Western policy in the Balkans. Russia is trying to tighten its grip on Serbia through close military cooperation and gas supplies. According to Der Spiegel, Russia's approach to Bosnia and Herzegovina is similar to its approach to Serbia.
