-Serbia will never become a member of NATO. That decision was made by the people of Serbia, and no government can overturn it, stated Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić, reports the Patria News Agency.
Nikolić emphasized that Serbia wants good relations with Russia and the West, but ruled out the possibility of ever joining NATO.
He also said that although Belgrade wants to join the EU, if accession means that "someone will force us to recognize the independence of Kosovo and abandon cooperation with Russia, then we would rather not join the EU".
Nikolić also noted that the EU is prone to "imposing its will on member states".
Now that Serbia is offered a chance to join that bloc and agree to a common foreign policy, "if that means we will have to oppose Russia, then why would we want that?", asked the Serbian president.
According to him, Russia's intervention in Syria against ISIL directly stopped the formation of a state in the way it was previously applied in Kosovo.
"If the Islamic State comes to life in Syria and establishes itself as a state, the question arises whether someone will use the Kosovo precedent to recognize it," Nikolić said.
The Serbian president asked if the US intervened in Iraq, Libya and Syria with good intentions, why is it suggested that Russia has bad intentions, writes Sputniknews.com
