(Patria) - Although affected by the coronavirus pandemic themselves, some NATO members have helped others, including North Macedonia, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg today in a phone call with the President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski.
- I welcome the support for our newest member. This is allied solidarity in action - said Stoltenberg, NATO announced, reminding that North Macedonia requested assistance from NATO on March 30.
As assistance to North Macedonia, Hungary provided 100,000 protective masks and 5,000 protective suits, Slovenia provided 200,000 masks, and the Netherlands provided tests for detecting the presence of coronavirus, Voice of America reported.
Also, the US government allocated $1.1 million, while Norway will send medical supplies worth 180,000 euros.
As part of the fight against the spread of the virus, North Macedonia is using a Norwegian field hospital, which has doubled the capacity of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Skopje, VOA adds.
