Protests continue in Albania, opposition demands Prime Minister Rama's resignation

(Patria) – The Albanian opposition organized the tenth protest this year, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama due to alleged electoral fraud and corruption.

Despite the summer heat, several thousand demonstrators chanted a message to Rama to leave office so that 'Albania can become like the rest of Europe'.

Leader of the opposition Democratic Party Lulzim Basha stated that Albanians want real change, and that they will 'use every means to overthrow Rama from power'. Basha emphasized that if Rama does not leave, 'there will be no EU integration, rule of law, or justice', reports Euronews portal.

European Union member states will decide this autumn whether to start accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia after the European Commission suggested that both countries deserve to move closer to the bloc.

Socialist Edi Rama, who is already in his second prime ministerial term, called the Democrats losers and accused their leaders of undermining judicial reforms, which otherwise aim to stop impunity for cases of corruption at the top of politics.
