Constituent Session of the Parliament of Montenegro Continues: Parliamentary Leadership and New Government to be Elected

The constituent session of the 28th convocation of the Parliament of Montenegro continued today, and the new head of parliament will be Andrija Mandić, leader of the New Serbian Democracy, in accordance with the political agreement signed by the constituents of the new parliamentary majority.

Mandić is scheduled to call a new session immediately after taking office, where a vote will be held for the election of the 44th Government, headed by Milojko Spajić, who submitted his exposé and the proposal for the composition of the new executive power to the Parliament on Thursday.

The agenda of the session also includes the election of two Deputy Speakers of the Parliament, with candidates Boris Pejović from the Europe Now movement and Zdenka Popović from Democratic Montenegro.

The president and members of the Administrative Committee will also be elected.

At the beginning of the session, the resignations of MPs who will hold ministerial positions in the new Government were noted, after which a break was given for the State Election Commission to submit a report on filling the parliamentary seats.

MP Kenana Strujić Harbić of the Bosniak Party wrote on social network X that if the morning is any indication, the Parliament will be a dictatorship of the majority.

As she stated, all 81 MPs will have only three hours to discuss the election of the Speaker of Parliament.

Concurrently with the election of the new leadership of the Parliament and the Government, a citizens' protest will begin in front of the parliament at 6 PM, organized by the forum of free citizens Luča, and supported by MPs from opposition parties.

Opposition representatives called citizens to gather, stating that resistance is a civic duty, and that a voice must be raised against the election of a Chetnik duke as Speaker of Parliament, as well as against the announced census, for which it is unknown whether it will begin on November 1st, or if, as future Prime Minister Milojko Spajić previously announced, it will be postponed for a month.
