According to Croatian media, the new leader of the Croatian SDP, Davor Bernardić, who won the internal party elections, has been in politics since he was 18 years old, reports Patria.
He was born in 1980 in Zagreb, where he graduated in physics from the Faculty of Science. He was an excellent student, and at the age of 18, after his father's death, he entered politics. From 2008 to 2010, he served as the president of the Youth Forum of SDP Croatia, and two years later he won the elections for the president of the City Organization of SDP Zagreb.
In 2013, Bernardić achieved another internal party victory in the race for the head of the Zagreb SDP, reports Index.hr.
As early as 2008, he was a member of the Main Board of SDP Croatia, and since June 2012, a member of the Presidency of SDP Croatia. He was also the president of the City Assembly of the City of Zagreb and a member of Parliament since 2008.
In the sixth convocation of the Croatian Parliament, he was a member of several committees. After his victory, Bernardić addressed the present party members after the results were read.
“Today, SDP won. Thank you to Zoran Milanović for everything he has done for SDP. Thank you for the democratic step forward in governance during our government. Thank you to the people who supported me all these years in the times when it was hardest,” said Bernardić.
He added that SDP has shown that it can change at crucial moments for Croatia.
“From tomorrow, we will start building a good society, a society of equal opportunities, in which everyone can contribute. We care about those who are poor, but we also care about those who work in creative industries, but always in the protection of workers, people who live from their work,” said the new SDP leader.
