(Patria) - A real drama is unfolding today in the Ptuj area of Slovenia, where police have been trying for hours to contain an armed man shooting from his balcony.
According to local media information, the Maribor police received a report around 8:40 AM today that an armed man had been seen in the Draženci settlement.
Police quickly arrived at the scene and surrounded the building where the armed man is located on the balcony. Police repeatedly appealed to him to lay down his weapon, but he did not, reports 24ur.
"The man came out onto the balcony several times, and at 9:48 AM he opened fire, shooting at the police officers," said police spokesperson Anita Kovačič Čelofiga.
Members of the Special Unit, along with negotiators, also arrived at the scene.
According to available information, the situation remains tense, and citizens have been ordered not to approach the area.
There are currently no confirmed reports of injuries.
Although claims have appeared on social media that the armed man is holding hostages in the apartment, the police have not yet been able to confirm these allegations.
