(Patria) - Heavy rains have caused catastrophic consequences in most of Slovenia, and lives have been lost. All available public security units are on the ground to provide all necessary assistance in rescuing people and minimizing material damage, the Government Communication Office of Slovenia announced.
"In most areas affected by the floods, rescue efforts are focused on ensuring basic living conditions and communication. Due to the extent of the damage in the affected areas, the Republic of Slovenia has decided to request international assistance through the EU and NATO mechanisms.
The Government Communication Office of the Republic of Slovenia has set up a special website in English that combines current news and instructions regarding the floods for the foreign public and media, especially for foreign citizens currently residing in or visiting Slovenia.
Information on the website is regularly updated and contains essential information on what to do during and after floods, emergency numbers, important advice and tips for tourists, links to websites for monitoring weather conditions, surface water levels, road conditions and public transport connections, where to contact foreign embassies and consulates, and information and contacts of Slovenian charitable organizations receiving donations to help people affected by the major floods that have hit Slovenia.
Information about the current situation in Slovenia can also be followed via the Twitter/X account of the Government of Slovenia.
In addition, the Slovenian Press Agency has launched a special website for the foreign public with news about the disaster available in English.
