SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Who is threatened by the drones from the United Arab Emirates, asks state parliamentarian Šemsudin Mehmedović (SDA).
Mehmedović recalls that the media reported that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced yesterday in Abu Dhabi that he would sign a contract with the United Arab Emirates within 48 hours for the purchase of their "suicide" drones.
"The Serbian president is these days visiting the International Defense Exhibition and Conference 'IDEX 2023' held in Abu Dhabi. According to his claims, this powerful weapon should arrive in Serbia 'in a very short time' after the purchase," the media reports state.
Mehmedović raises the question of what kind of war and against which opponent or opponents Serbia is preparing for with its intensive arming.
"It is difficult to find even one country in its immediate and wider surroundings that has any territorial pretensions towards it or that in any way threatens its sovereignty. The conclusion that follows is that Serbia does not need weapons for defense but for other purposes. Since the internal and foreign policy of a country are necessarily linked to its military policy, neighboring states should evaluate Serbia's policy within that totality. Since the arrival of Slobodan Milošević to power, Serbia has become an element of insecurity first within the SFRY, and through aggression against BiH and the attack on Kosovo, as well as by creating a refugee crisis within the wider Balkan region. Changes of different political parties at the helm of Serbia have, unfortunately, not led to a change in this state of affairs. On the contrary. The direct involvement of Serbian security services in coups in Montenegro and Macedonia and the subversive influence that, through the RS, it has on the situation in BiH and through municipalities with a Serbian majority in northern Kosovo in that country, indicates what the very likely motives are for the accelerated modernization and strengthening of Serbia's armed forces," Mehmedović stated.
He adds that the publicly promoted success that the Serbian Army is currently stronger than all the armed forces of the former SFRY countries speaks in favor of this.
"Statements by the highest Serbian officials that Serbia will not allow the expulsion and pogroms of the Serbian population in neighboring countries where they live are sufficiently warning in the aforementioned context. None of the neighboring countries pursues a policy that even hints at a hostile policy towards its Serbian citizens or that gives cause to conclude that it aims to persecute Serbs as a people. Serbia, on the other hand, instrumentalizes the political leadership among Serbs living in those countries to pursue policies that are nationalist, discriminatory towards members of other peoples, and that call into question the sovereignty and territorial integrity of those countries, thereby threatening their elementary social stability. Such conduct indicates a continuity, not an abandonment, of the great-state policy that sees Serbia as a small colonial empire in the Balkans, where Serbia occupies the central, most important place and from which it has the power to complete its policy of ethnic engineering in neighboring countries as a precondition for permanently preserving that dominant position," Mehmedović points out.
He explains that this would imply a continuation of the policy of ethnic cleansing of non-Serbs from territories of strategic interest to Serbia and/or a continuation of changing ethnic identity to Serbian in countries where a significant number of inhabitants are of Orthodox faith but do not feel Serbian, such as Montenegrins and Macedonians. The identical identity policy pursued by Russia in Ukraine, denying and destroying the Ukrainian identity among Ukrainians and promoting and imposing the Russian identity, shows that this, unfortunately, is already part of contemporary great-state international political practice.
"And the discriminatory practices that the RS authorities, as an open agent of Serbia in BiH, carry out against the non-Serb population, aimed at permanently ensuring an absolute majority for the Serbian people in that area and, despite the non-discriminatory Constitution of BiH, a dominant position for the Serbian people, is a prime example of the position in which all non-Serb peoples would be under the domination of Serbia. The entire region of the former SFRY, with the exception of Slovenia and Croatia, would return to 1918, to the time of the existence of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, which was under the domination of Serbia and in which Bosniaks, Montenegrins, Macedonians and Albanians were not recognized as peoples and were subjected to extremely oppressive official and unofficial policies from Belgrade driven by the ideology of militant Serbian nationalism. Bearing in mind the above, pro-Bosnian parties should urgently contact the leadership of the United Arab Emirates and draw their attention to the fact that the suicide drones they will sell to Serbia will not serve for its defense against an external enemy, but for demonstrating power towards its neighbors, including BiH, as well as for breaking military resistance in those countries if geopolitical forces align so that Serbia gets a free hand to establish its dominance in the Western Balkans by military means if necessary.
Then the blood of innocent victims would spill over the suicide drones onto the hands of the UAE, which no one who is friendly towards them wishes for them. Therefore, they should be presented with a demand not to sign the contract with Serbia so as not to contribute to the destabilization of a region very sensitive to political upheavals. Pro-Bosnian parties could consider involving the diplomacy of a friendly country that has good relations with the UAE in this activity. Finally, Aleksandar Vučić has produced enough radical movements in Serbia with his policy that it is already clear that he will not be able to control them, and that there is a real danger of misuse of suicide drones even in internal conflicts in Serbia. It is up to Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković!" Mehmedović concludes.
