(Patria) - American billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk announced that he expects clinical trials of the wireless brain chip developed by his company Neuralink to begin on humans in
six months, after earlier deadlines were missed.
Neuralink is developing brain chips designed to enable people with paralysis to regain motor functions and treat brain diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's disease or dementia, agencies report.
In recent years, the company has conducted tests on animals while awaiting permission for human testing from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
"We want to be extremely careful and sure that it will work well before we insert the device into a human, but I think we have submitted most of our documentation to the FDA and probably in about six months we should get permission to test the chip on humans," Musk said during a presentation at Neuralink's headquarters that lasted nearly three hours.
