KFOR Mission in Kosovo: We are carefully monitoring the situation

(Patria) - The NATO-KFOR mission in Kosovo issued a statement via Twitter, calling for an end to the provocative show of force in the north of Kosovo, and reiterated that they have sufficient capacity to ensure security.

The roads leading to the border crossings between Kosovo and Serbia, Brnjak and Jarinje, have been blocked by Serbian barricades since last week.

KFOR reiterated on Twitter that they are carefully monitoring the situation in the north of Kosovo.

"KFOR has the capacity and personnel to ensure security and a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities under our mandate stemming from United Nations Resolution 1244," the KFOR statement said.

KFOR added that since October, its presence has been reinforced, including new troops and patrols in the north of Kosovo this week.

"We expect all actors to closely coordinate with KFOR and refrain from provocative shows of force, in order to ensure security for all communities. We call on all parties to commit to enabling security and freedom of movement in Kosovo. KFOR will continue to fulfill its mandate for all communities in Kosovo. Solutions must be sought through dialogue," the tweet reads.

This week, US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar and EU Special Envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajčak visited Kosovo and Belgrade, stating that an agreement had been reached on the removal of the barricades. Escobar said that those who set them up should remove them.
