(Patria) - Croatian President Zoran Milanović met with Mayor Marko Filipović in Rijeka today, and then gave a statement to the media.
It is my custom, when I come somewhere, to report to the people who have been elected to public office - said Milanović.
- This should not be ideologically separated. Many of these things are known, some are projects from my mandate, but I do not want to compare myself or compete with anyone.
I see the mission of public officials and politicians largely as fighting for every euro, and every unused euro is a wasted euro and actually a lost opportunity for Croatia.
I have no advice other than to keep repeating this. Citizens watch what we do and how we manage public money, they are most sensitive to that - stated Milanović.
He points out that corruption is rampant in Croatia, adding that "Croatia is suffocating under the burden of corruption".
- This can no longer be tolerated. We are worse than 10 or 12 years ago, and whoever can contribute at the local level to change this has my support - added Milanović.
