Mešihat of the Islamic Community in Serbia condemns the act of intimidating Muslims in Subotica

(Patria) - The Mešihat of the Islamic Community in Serbia announced that the Mešihat received the news with outrage that Subotica yesterday woke up plastered with stickers featuring an illustration of a crossed-out mosque, which, as the Mešihat states, is a clear message to Muslims living in this multi-confessional place that their only religious building - the Muhadžer mosque is unwelcome in this city, and with it, members of Islam who traditionally have good relations with other fellow citizens from 25 different national communities.

"We strongly condemn this vandalistic anti-Muslim and anti-civilization act, which, in addition to its pro-fascist and Islamophobic message aimed at intimidation, also shows solidarity with the terrorist attack recently carried out in New Zealand, where 50 Muslims were killed and 30 injured in a mosque. Furthermore, we express our concern and surprise that the Police Administration in Subotica recently withdrew the security in front of the mosque, which was introduced after an attempted arson of this religious building in October 2014, which further caused concern and unrest among the Muslims of this city," stated the Mešihat of the Islamic Community in Serbia, adding:

"On this occasion, we expect the competent authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to bring the perpetrators of this act to justice as soon as possible, and to provide full personal and property security to members of Islam in Subotica and other places where there is a potential danger," the statement concluded.
