(Patria) - The condition of former Croatian Defence Minister Mario Banožić continues to improve, the Osijek Clinical Hospital Centre (KBC) announced.
He has been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the Neurosurgery Clinic, where his multidisciplinary treatment continues.
According to the law on the election of representatives to the Croatian Parliament, Banožić has eight days from his dismissal to activate his parliamentary mandate.
Banožić's lawyer submitted a request on his behalf to activate his parliamentary mandate. The request also seeks to put the mandate on hold and activate the use of the so-called 6+6 privilege.
This means that for the next six months he will receive his full official salary, and for the following six months half of it.
Banožić was injured last Saturday in a traffic accident in which one person died. He sustained multiple injuries to his body, brain, chest, indirectly to his abdomen, and extremities.
After the accident, he was first hospitalised in the Vinkovci hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the Osijek KBC, where they reported that neurotrauma was dominant at that time, and Banožić does not remember the traffic accident.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković dismissed Banožić immediately after the accident and authorised State Secretary Zdravko Jakop to lead the Ministry of Defence.
He then proposed the Osijek-Baranja County Prefect Ivan Anušić as the new Minister of Defence and Vice President of the Croatian Government, who was subsequently confirmed in Parliament.
