(Patria) - The President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, today signed a decision on the participation of a part of the army in firefighting.
Her cabinet announced that the engagement of members of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia followed the Government's declaration of a state of emergency due to fires.
"The General Staff of the Army will determine the manner of its engagement. The President has been informed about the fire situation and expresses concern and condolences to the affected citizens," the statement said.
The Government of North Macedonia yesterday afternoon decided to declare a 30-day state of crisis throughout the country due to an increased incidence of fires.
As explained, this means that an integrated approach and coordinated action of all competent institutions - the army, police, fire brigades, the Crisis Management Center, the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, and local self-governments will be enabled on the ground.
- All resources, including human, technical, and logistical, will be mobilized to combat fires and protect the population - said the spokesperson for the Government of North Macedonia, Marija Miteva, yesterday.
According to data from the Crisis Management Center, a total of 25 outdoor fires were recorded in North Macedonia by 6 PM, of which 21 are active and four have been extinguished.
