SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Following the final verdict for war crimes against former DB of Serbia officials Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović, the 'Mothers of Srebrenica' have announced a lawsuit against the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.
"After the verdicts for the Joint Criminal Enterprise, and the verdict against Stanišić and Simatović, we plan to file a lawsuit against the Republic of Serbia and the RS. We will seek justice for every victim of genocide," is the message from the 'Mothers of Srebrenica'.
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) on Wednesday handed down final sentences of 15 years in prison each to former chiefs of the State Security Service (DB) of Serbia, Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović, accused of crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
Presiding Judge of the five-judge Appeals Panel, Graciela Gatti Santana, stated that this is the final verdict after proceedings initiated before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, whose successor is the Mechanism.
The Appeals Panel accepted the prosecution's appeal and concluded that they were responsible for the JCE, which aimed at the violent removal of non-Serb population throughout the war in BiH.
With this verdict, they were also found guilty of crimes in Bijeljina, Zvornik, Doboj, Trnovo, Bosanski Šamac, and Sanski Most.
