Lekić: Vučić hates journalists, he is worse than Milošević

The president of the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS) Slaviša Lekić stated that the president of Serbia and the Serbian Progressive Party Aleksandar Vučić "despises journalists" and assessed that he is worse than Slobodan Milošević in this regard, reports the Patria agency.  

- Vučić tried to be a journalist, and then they made him Minister of Information. Vučić despises journalists more than his own people. Not a day goes by without a journalist having a target drawn on their head. Vučić is worse than Milošević, the only difference being that unlike Milošević, Vučić does not kill – yet – Lekić said at the forum "Permit for Darkness" at the Independent Journalists' Association of Vojvodina, Beta reports.

He added that Vučić "argues with tweeters".

- I thought it was a matter of his madness, but it's not, it's an introduction to something that is being prepared. It is not excluded that they will try to limit freedom on social networks - said Lekić.

He added that the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is behind the closure of the weekly Vranjske.

- A man from the top of the local SNS government told him that he had to be eliminated because the SNS considers Vranjske their only political opponent in Vranje - Lekić stated.

He assessed that Vukasin Obradović's decision to go on a hunger strike gave people hope. Lekić announced that an informal body will coordinate further actions not only of colleagues but also of the public with the aim of "liberating the media" in Serbia.

- Starting Thursday, we are launching an action to liberate the media, to try to explain to people that there is no democracy without the media and to ask for their help in this fight - said Lekić.

He assessed that journalists who work in accordance with the code of ethics are the bravest part of society, because they open topics and speak out bravely. There are no other professions, here and there, perhaps an actor.
