Kurti: No autonomy for Serbs in Kosovo because they are citizens of that country

(Patria) - Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said there is no autonomy for Serbs in Kosovo because they are citizens of that country, but there is de facto recognition between Kosovo and Serbia.

"There is no autonomy for local Serbs in Kosovo. They are citizens of our Republic and I am their prime minister. We refer to the Council of Europe's framework agreement for the protection of national minorities. There is no self-government, there is only de facto recognition between Kosovo and Serbia," Prime Minister Kurti said in an interview given to Albanian Top Channel.

According to him, there can be no privileged national minorities in Kosovo because privileges for someone can be discrimination for someone else.

"I am not for discrimination, oppression, exploitation, and marginalization of Serbs. We Albanians were under Serbian rule for a century, we will not repeat anything similar and it will never occur to us, but we also cannot have a super minority in Kosovo. We cannot have privileged people based on national or religious affiliation because privileges for someone become discrimination for someone else," said Kurti.

Kurti reiterated once again that he guarantees there will be no non-transparent solutions that undermine the constitutionality and the republican and democratic order of Kosovo.

The President of the Kosovo Government was in Tirana on Sunday, where he informed Albanian officials about the dialogue process with Serbia, as well as about the Brussels and Ohrid agreements, which, as he said, are a great achievement for the normalization of relations between the two countries, which are still not normal, although Kosovo is a normal and democratic state.
