(Patria) - Members of the Kosovo Police were attacked in the village of Banjska in northern Kosovo, resulting in one death and one injury, announced Prime Minister Albin Kurti on Facebook.
Kurti states that the attack occurred around 03:00 AM, that a sergeant-rank police officer was killed, and that a border police officer was injured but is out of danger.
"At this moment, gunfire of various calibers continues to be directed at our police. The attackers are professionals, masked and armed with heavy weaponry," Kurti wrote on Facebook, as reported by Kosovo online.
He condemned this crime, stating that it was a terrorist attack, and linked it to "organized crime supported by Belgrade".
"We condemn this criminal and terrorist attack. Organized crime, with the political, financial, and logistical support of official Belgrade, is attacking our country. In this fight, we protect and enforce the law, we protect and safeguard all citizens equally, and an independent Kosovo," Kurti announced.
Meanwhile, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, also issued a statement, expressing her condolences and stating that she is returning to Kosovo urgently from New York.
