Kurti and Vučić in Brussels: Is there a final agreement on Kosovo?

(Patria) - Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić will hold a meeting today in Brussels with Josep Borrell, head of European diplomacy. Ahead of this meeting, which is considered to be historic, a joint letter was published, addressed to Kurti and Vučić by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni.

The letter stated that the three European officials welcome the statements of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti confirming his readiness to accept the European proposal as the "Basic Agreement".

"We believe that it is now important to establish a path forward with the aim of concluding this agreement to ensure its implementation based on the text you agree upon," they emphasized in the letter.

They further wrote that, in accordance with the conclusions of February 9, the European Council expressed support for this very important agreement and at the same time called on Serbia and Kosovo to implement, fully and unconditionally, the obligations they agreed to in the 2013 and 2015 agreements organizing the "Community of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority".

"The steps towards implementation that lie ahead should reflect this political approach. We look forward to discussing this at the meeting in Brussels on February 27th," they stated.

The most difficult issue is expected to be the establishment of the Community of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority, but it is clear to everyone in Kosovo that they must fulfill this obligation unconditionally, and they have received assurances from the West that such a community will not mean a new Republika Srpska in Kosovo.
