(Patria) - Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti today received representatives of the Bosniak and Albanian communities living in Serbia, who requested reciprocity in rights with Serbs in Kosovo.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's office, the delegations from the Party of Democratic Action of Sandžak included its president Sulejman Ugljanin, MPs Enisa Imamović and Selma Kučević, and MP in the Serbian Parliament and president of the Party of Democratic Action, Šaip Kamberi, who informed Kurti about the concerns and problems they face.
Kurti informed them about the elements of the European proposal for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
- The rights of non-majority communities in our countries reflect our democracy and development as societies. Unlike Serbia, which Freedom House classifies as a hybrid regime, the Republic of Kosovo is a democratic state with rights and freedom for all - Kurti emphasized.
He added that different communities should be treated equally within universal principles and in full compliance with European Union standards.
- Imamović, Kučević, and Kamberi, together with Ugljanin, pointed out that they are dissatisfied with the position of Bosniaks and Albanians in general, and especially in the municipalities of Novi Pazar, Tutin, and Sjenica in Sandžak, as well as Preševo, Medveđa, and Bujanovac in the Preševo Valley. They requested reciprocity of rights with Serbs in the Republic of Kosovo – the statement reads.
The interlocutors agreed that for lasting peace and security in the Western Balkans, there should be symmetry of rights, not privileged access for a minority or community.
