Crisis shakes Croatian SDP, Milanka Opačić fiercely attacks President Bernardić

After a stormy meeting of the SDP parliamentary club on Tuesday, passions in that party are not calming down. One of the most prominent members of this party, Milanka Opačić, was appalled by Bernardić's messages at yesterday's session, reports Patria News Agency.

Harsh words were exchanged yesterday, as Tportal.hr unofficially learns, at the session of the SDP parliamentary club. In response to the deputies' criticism of party leadership, SDP leader Davor Bernardić gave a clear message.

- I was appalled by the party president's statement that those who are dissatisfied with the club's work can leave it because there are many who want to take our place. The party president is a person who should bring people together, keep them united, attract new people to the party. This one, unfortunately, is driving people away and sending us a message to leave the Club - SDP member Milanka Opačić told reporters in Parliament.

It is already known that relations in the Croatian SDP have not been good for some time, but the situation has now escalated due to SDP's prevarication regarding the ultimatum for the establishment of an investigative committee for Agrokor.

- All those who voted for Bernardić have clearly been deceived. He said during the election campaign that everyone would be welcome. As we can see, he is now trying to create not a party, but a sect of his friends. A party is not a society of friends; people gather in a party because of ideas, programs, certain values. Yesterday, the message was unfortunately - all of you who do not think like me can leave the Club and the party. Unfortunately, he has surrounded himself with some people who have never been able to deal with problems, but have always run away from those problems - Opačić said.

One of those who defended the party leader was the vice-president of the SDP, Zlatko Komadina. Therefore, reporters asked Opačić if she was referring to Komadina when talking about people who ran away from problems.

- Yes, I mean Zlatko Komadina, who ran away from the Government. He was not fired; he resigned because he could not cope with the problems in his department - Opačić criticized sharply.

On top of all this, the SDP's rating continues to fall.

- I think it can only be stopped by a new party president and new leadership. With this team, I think the rating will stay at this level or may fall further - she added.

She reminded that the mechanisms for initiating a dismissal have five presidents of county organizations, who can convene an extraordinary convention.

- Therefore, the people in the field must decide whether they have the will for the party to survive as a large party, or we will turn into a sect of Davor Bernardić's friends. Those who have the mechanisms should do their part, otherwise, we are all accomplices in making the SDP a marginal party that no one will ask anything from anymore - said Opačić.
