Kosovo demands Serbia hand over fugitive police attackers

(Patria) - Kosovo has called on Serbia to hand over armed ethnic Serbs it says fled after clashes with Kosovo police in which four people were killed, Reuters reported.

Armed attackers entered the village of Banjska on Sunday, fought with police and barricaded themselves inside a Serbian Orthodox monastery. Police took control of the monastery late on Sunday, after three attackers and one police officer were killed.

Police searched houses in Banjska on Monday for any of the 30 armed attackers who may not have fled, a police source told Reuters.

Kosovo authorities said some of the armed men are believed to have fled to Serbia. Kosovo's Interior Minister Xhelal Svecla said six wounded members of the armed group were hospitalised in Novi Pazar.

"We demand that Serbia extradite these people to Kosovo authorities as soon as possible, so they can face justice for their terrorist acts," as well as others who fled to Serbia, Svecla said.
