(Patria) - NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo will be reduced to between 3,000 and 3,500 troops, from the current approximately 4,700 members.
Rutte assessed that the decision is a result of the improved security situation in Kosovo, noting that NATO remains fully committed to stability and security in the region.
NATO previously announced a gradual adjustment of forces based on the annual assessment of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).
The United States also confirmed that it will adjust its contribution to the mission, while continuing to support KFOR as a key factor in regional stability.
KFOR has been present in Kosovo since 1999, with troops from 31 countries participating in the mission.
