Košarac: We must not wait for Croatia to make a final decision on Trgovska Gora

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina Staša Košarac today convened a meeting to discuss the construction of a nuclear waste repository at Trgovska Gora in Croatia, immediately adjacent to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting was attended by representatives of entity environment ministries, as well as municipalities in the Una River basin. The position of the meeting participants is that the construction of a repository at that location is unacceptable.

Košarac stated that all meeting participants emphasized that the nuclear waste repository at Trgovska Gora is unacceptable and that the common goal is to protect the lives and health of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"We must not wait for them to make a final decision, then it will be too late. We concluded that it is necessary to open a discussion at the session of the Council of Ministers on this issue and to make a decision on forming a legal expert team that will represent Bosnia and Herzegovina in this case," said Košarac.

State representative Saša Magazinović said they do not want a repeat of the Pelješac Bridge case.

"That is a case where, after it was completed and the bridge was built and we all see it, someone remembered that a legal team should have been formed. That is why today's conclusion to form a legal team as soon as possible is an extremely key step forward in resolving this problem. From a legal standpoint, all arguments are on the side of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but this must be concretized. I saw cooperation among institutions and ministries, and the agreement is for everyone to continue doing what they can," said Magazinović.
