Consultations with Kolinda: Formation of a new parliamentary majority or early elections in Croatia

Yesterday afternoon the Government fell, and today from 9 AM the President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar Kitarović will hold consultations with representatives of clubs and other members of the Croatian Parliament, writes Index, reports the Patria News Agency.

Kolinda decided not to waste time, but will first receive MPs individually, and then parliamentary clubs. The talks should last about 15 minutes.

The main question is whether someone will come to Kolinda with 76 signatures for a new parliamentary majority, or whether the SDP and its satellites will submit 76 signatures tomorrow for the dissolution of the Parliament, which automatically leads to early elections.

Analysts have already started talking about a potential election date after yesterday's fall of the Government, and Index learned that July 17 and August 14 are likely dates, as well as the first or second week of September.

MOST and the SDP coalition will meet today in the Parliament to agree on submitting signatures for dissolution. With the fall of the government, the constitutional deadline of 30 days began, during which parliamentary parties can try to form a new majority and appoint a new prime minister and government.

If they fail to do so, the Speaker of Parliament will inform the President of the Republic of Croatia, who will immediately dissolve the Croatian Parliament and call parliamentary elections, which can be held no earlier than 30 and no later than 60 days after the dissolution of Parliament. The current government, the prime minister and ministers, will continue to do their job until a new government is elected.

HDZ continues to announce that they will gather a new majority in Parliament that would support the current Minister of Finance, Zdravko Marić, as the mandatary for forming a new government.
