Rain and snow paralyze Slovenia, avalanche danger threatens northern parts of the country

The northeastern part of Slovenia has been hit by bad weather and downpours in recent days, and from Sunday to Monday morning, an average of 70 liters of rain per square meter fell in the areas of Maribor, Ptuj, and Murska Sobota, while there is still a high danger of avalanches in the Alps, reports the Patria News Agency.

During yesterday, there were several interventions by firefighters and other services in the northeastern parts of the country, and there is still a danger of smaller rivers overflowing today, as an additional 30 liters of precipitation per square meter are expected by evening.

Due to the new snow that has fallen in recent days, the danger of avalanches remains in effect in the high mountains, especially in the Julian Alps, i.e., on mountains higher than 1700 meters.

The Minister of Agriculture, Dejan Židan, will visit the areas threatened by frost, snow, and floods this afternoon. He stated that according to initial estimates, last week's frost and snow caused significant damage to vineyards and fields, especially orchards, and that the damage in some parts of the country is 90 percent, but it still needs to be precisely determined, writes Index.
