Serbian candidate for Srebrenica Mayor Mladen Grujičić has launched his election campaign in neighboring Serbia, writes Patria.
Grujičić is counting on collecting enough votes from voters who hold both Bosnian and Serbian citizenship, thereby defeating the current, pro-European oriented Srebrenica Mayor Ćamil Duraković, who, according to pre-election polls, has a significant lead.
Grujičić addressed journalists today in Belgrade at the Media Center hall.
Serbian parties also brought voters from neighboring Serbia by bus during the last local elections in Srebrenica, but Duraković still received more votes.
Grujičić is a young candidate for Srebrenica Mayor, representing a coalition of several Serbian parties. Early in his campaign, he stirred controversy after denying the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica, committed by the Serbian army and police, along with civilian authorities in 1995.
Analysts warn that it would not be good for either Bosniaks or Serbs if Grujičić wins the election in Srebrenica. This small municipality in eastern Bosnia needs a mayor who will work on reconciliation, not create divisions between people, writes Patria.
