Another victim of floods in Slovenia, man found in septic tank

(Patria) - Slovenia continues to suffer catastrophic floods and their consequences. While hydrological conditions are expected to calm down, many places are now threatened by landslides, reports N1 Ljubljana.

The situation was very serious for most of yesterday along the Mura River, which tore off more than ten meters of embankment near the village of Dolnja Bistrica in the municipality of Črenšovci.

Authorities in Slovenia ordered evacuations in several villages and tried to close the hole in the embankment. Just under 3,000 people are without electricity.

Several new landslides were triggered in the municipality of Velenje.

The floods have claimed another life.

The Ljubljana police received a report that a dead person was found in a septic tank in the area of Most pri Komendi, the Slovenian news agency reported on Sunday, while local media report that it is a man who died while clearing the aftermath of the floods.

As reported by the portal Kamnik info, it is a man who allegedly died while clearing the aftermath of the severe floods that hit Slovenia.

According to information gathered so far, the man died when he fell into a pit with an open window during work, and the death is not a result of a criminal act.

The police continue to gather information and will report all circumstances to the competent state prosecutor's office, announced the Ljubljana Police Administration.

European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič announced that the EU, at Slovenia's request, activated the Civil Protection Mechanism due to the floods that hit the country.

Lenarčič stated on Twitter that Slovenia needs heavy machinery with operators and prefabricated temporary bridges.

Trucks with food and other types of humanitarian aid have set off from Poland and Hungary, reported STA.

"The first trucks with humanitarian aid for Slovenia from the Polish Red Cross left Poland this morning," the Polish Embassy in Ljubljana announced on Twitter.
