Elections in Serbia on December 17

(Patria) - Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić informed her associates and ministers at today's session of the Serbian Government that the elections will be held on December 17.

That the elections will be held on December 17 was first stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić during his guest appearance on RTS, after which the Prime Minister said the same at the session of the Serbian Government, Nova.rs reports.

A wave of resignations by mayors and municipal presidents followed the announcement by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who said last night as a guest on RTS that there would be "some local elections" starting December 17.

"I received a letter, here it is officially. You have to respect democracy and the opposition parties, and I am not someone who is enthusiastic about their work. They said the country is falling apart, that the economy is destroyed, even though it is stronger than when they led this country... I accepted their idea and we are ready for elections from December 17 already, they can be on December 17," said Vučić.

He said that December 24 is Catholic Christmas Eve, and that elections cannot be held then.

"They can be on December 17. If they want, they can be on December 23. Let them say when they want. Parliamentary, Belgrade, provincial, and elections in some other municipalities will be held together. We know that they are the favorites for the elections in Serbia," added Vučić.

Let us remind you, the President of Serbia announced in an address to journalists on September 22 in New York that immediately upon his return to Serbia, he would start writing a response to the request submitted by representatives of the opposition organizing the "Serbia Against Violence" protests, in which they demand the calling of early parliamentary and Belgrade elections.

"Now that I return, I will start writing the response to them to the letter they sent me and see when we will have these elections," Vučić said at the time, adding that he was sure the opposition would be "delighted".

"They have now formed this alliance for victory ('Agreement for Victory'), they are going to win, they are big favorites, they have enormous strength among the people," the Serbian president said at the time.

Vučić said that today he agreed with the Mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Šapić, on how the results would be presented.

"He will be the SNS candidate, that is the proposal of Miloš Vučević. It will be my honor to be on the SNS list, if they invite me," said Vučić.
