Refugees: Slovenia seeks Arabic translators, fee of 3,000 euros

The Slovenian Ministry of Interior announced on Monday that it is seeking a larger number of Arabic translators to  assist the police in registering migrants in order to prevent false representation, reports the Patria News Agency.

They are looking for individuals who can translate from Arabic to Slovenian and English and vice versa, with oral translation being paid 43 euros gross per hour, and written translation 26 euros per page of 1500 characters without spaces.

Candidates are required to send their applications to the Ministry of Interior with proof of knowledge of the Arabic language, and a statement that they would be willing to respond to a translation request within two hours, 24 hours a day, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Selected candidates will also have their travel expenses covered, and they will sign a freelance contract with the ministry for an initial approximate amount of around 3,000 euros gross.

The Slovenian police are seeking translators for asylum procedures, as well as for monitoring migrant identification. Austria recently decided to do the same, rejecting several hundred migrants from Slovenia at the end of the year after establishing, with the help of Arabic translators, that they were providing false information about themselves, most often posing as refugees from Syria in the hope of obtaining asylum more easily, although language and dialect analysis revealed they were not from Syria but from Afghanistan, Iraq, or North African countries, writes Index.
