BiH Armed Forces Unit Dispatched to Slovenia to Assist with Flood Aftermath

(Patria) - A temporary unit of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina was dispatched on August 11 from the "Kozara" barracks in Banja Luka to the Republic of Slovenia, with the aim of carrying out a humanitarian mission to clear the aftermath of the catastrophic floods that recently hit the country after severe weather.

The Ministry of Defense of BiH states that the dispatch was attended by the Deputy Minister of Defense of BiH for Resource Management Aleksandar Goganović, Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of the BiH Armed Forces for Operations Major General Ivica Jerkić, Commander of the Operational Command of the BiH Armed Forces Major General Radovan Ilić, and other officials.

Goganović thanked the members of the BiH Armed Forces participating in this humanitarian mission, and emphasized the importance of the BiH Armed Forces' involvement in assisting the authorities of the Republic of Slovenia in clearing the aftermath of the floods. He also wished the members of the temporary unit a safe journey and successful completion of their task, as well as a safe return to their families.

The unit is being sent on this humanitarian mission after the Ministry of Defense and the BiH Armed Forces completed all necessary preparations and legal procedures for engaging the available capacities of the BiH Armed Forces to provide assistance to civilian authorities in responding to the natural disaster.

The temporary unit consists of ten members of the engineering battalion of the BiH Armed Forces, who are trained for such situations and equipped with the necessary mechanization.

The mission of the members of the BiH Armed Forces will be to provide support to the authorities of the Republic of Slovenia in responding to and clearing the aftermath of the floods, and they will operate in the engagement zone with members of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Defense of BiH concludes.
