Inzko: Women of this country are extremely talented and valuable

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - High Representative Valentin Inzko congratulates all women in Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 8, International Women's Day. The High Representative uses this opportunity to emphasize the urgent need for greater
involvement of women in the daily political and socio-economic flows of this country, especially in the public sector.

"The Law on Gender Equality of BiH - which was not imposed, but is entirely a domestic initiative - stipulates a minimum representation of 40% for women in numerous authorities, including legislative and executive bodies. Anything below that level of participation in power can be considered inequality and disrespect for the rule of law. Those authorities that do not implement the law are violating it", said the High Representative.

Encouraging political actors to take concrete steps to improve gender equality at all levels of government, the High Representative emphasized "that paying due respect to women in BiH society is much more than giving a red rose on the occasion of International Women's Day. The women of this country are extremely talented and valuable – and their capacities are very poorly utilized, which is to the detriment of everyone. Women deserve to be fully included and to participate in power, and I am sure that this country would benefit greatly from their engagement", said Inzko.

The High Representative also once again called for increased efforts to prevent violence against women and improve women's access to quality healthcare.
