Inauguration of Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, members of the BiH Presidency attend

(Patria) - Newly elected President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović will take the oath before deputies in the Montenegrin parliament today and assume the office of head of state.

The newly elected president takes the oath on the day his predecessor Milo Đukanović's term expires, and the inauguration ceremony will begin at 12:00 in the Parliament of Montenegro.

As announced, Speaker of the Parliament Danijela Đurović will open the session, followed by the playing of the national anthem.

“After that, Milatović will take the oath and deliver his inaugural address, marking his assumption of the office of President of Montenegro,” the parliament's statement said.

Following the session, a ceremonial military salute will be held on the plateau in front of the Parliament.

According to the protocol, a cocktail party hosted by the President of Montenegro and his wife is scheduled for 5:30 PM at Villa Gorica.

Milatović won the presidential election in the second round, held on April 2, in which he secured nearly 60 percent of the vote.

Under the Constitution of Montenegro, adopted on October 22, 2007, the head of state is elected by direct vote for a five-year term.

Since the restoration of independence on May 21, 2006, the position of President of Montenegro was held by Filip Vujanović, who was elected in the presidential elections of 2008 and 2013.

Milo Đukanović was elected to this position in the 2018 presidential election.

Montenegro celebrates Independence Day tomorrow.

All three members of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović, have also gone to the inauguration.
