Imamović: May 15, 1992 is crucial for the defense of Tuzla, we must resist propaganda from RS and Serbia

On the occasion of the commemoration of May 15, the Day of Defense of Tuzla, a round table was held today at the International Atelier Ismet Mujezinović on the topic „The Significance of May 15, the Day of Defense of Tuzla“. Participants and organizers of the Round Table spoke about the historic battle at Brčanska Malta, on May 15, 1992, which determined the fate of Tuzla in the past war, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

According to the Mayor of Tuzla, Jasmin Imamović, this date should be included in school textbooks so that future generations can appreciate the significance of the mentioned event and the truth about what happened.

- The municipal, and now city, government has been marking this date as the Day of Defense of Tuzla for years, both legally and factually. Strong propaganda is being waged against this date, partly from RS and partly from Serbia, although it is known that members of the MUP of BiH, SJB Tuzla, acting in necessary defense, defended Tuzla. We need to talk about and commemorate this date in order to preserve the truth, which has been threatened by the very trial of Ilija Jurišić. However, in the end, the Court of Appeals in Belgrade also recognized the truth about May 15, 1992, in Tuzla - said Imamović.

The city is the organizer of the commemoration event and it should be placed within the framework of cultural and historical heritage in order to preserve the truth. The next step is for the truth about May 15, 1992, to be included in school programs.

- As the Mayor of Tuzla, I am disappointed that this date has not been included in the school program of TK. And that will be my message, because the significance of May 15 transcends only the significance for Tuzla, it is also a significance for Bosnia and Herzegovina - emphasized the Mayor of Tuzla.
