Last night at 8:20 PM, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) received a call from the 112 Centre informing them that an elderly woman had gone missing in the area of Šestine at the foot of Medvednica. Competent services immediately launched a search operation, reports the Patria News Agency.
Officers from the Ministry of Interior and rescuers from the Zagreb Station responded to the call and immediately began planning the search in consultation with the family and the police. Low night temperatures and the age of the missing person required rapid planning of the search and the quickest possible deployment to the field. A large number of rescuers and a tracking dog with its handler were immediately involved in the search to quickly cover the terrain.
Facebook proved to be extremely useful, as the family gathered information about the woman's movements from eyewitnesses through this network. In accordance with the data obtained, the search area was constantly adjusted.
To the great relief of the family, the missing person was found a few minutes before midnight by police officers, thus ending the search.
The search involved 19 rescuers from the Zagreb Station, one tracking dog, family friends of the missing person, and a number of Ministry of Interior officers with whom excellent cooperation was established, both in the field and in the office planning of the search strategy itself," announced HGSS, writes Index.
