The deadline for submitting candidacies for the new president of the SDP in Croatia has expired. Zlatko Komadina and Zoran Milanović had previously registered for the race for the top position in the Croatian Social Democrats, but they received an unexpected competitor at the last minute.
According to eZadar, Dušan Polovina Lungo from Zadar joined Komadina and Milanović in the race for president at the last minute.
Polovina has run for three positions - president, member of the Presidency, and member of the Main Board of the SDP. This 56-year-old from Zadar worked in construction for years, and in recent years he has been particularly involved as a minority shareholder in resolving the bankruptcy of the Nauta Lamjana shipyard.
His intention with this candidacy, as he says, is to further democratize the electoral process and relations within the SDP, and his main program is the continuation of the fight against economic and judicial crime, especially crime that is based in law.
All candidacies are merely expressed intentions, as every candidate for SDP president must collect 1,000 signatures within 30 days.
After this deadline, the election campaign will begin, and SDP members will elect a new president on April 2, writes Index.
Candidates for other party positions, decided by the party's Convention two weeks after the SDP president election, were also supposed to submit their candidacies by midnight on Saturday.
