Croatian politicians test public pulse and occasionally mention a third entity

 

Šemso Tanković, former member of the Croatian Parliament and a respected professor in Croatia, told the BH news agency Patria that he is not surprised by the proposals and discussions in the Parliament by some opposition representatives that a third entity is necessary in BiH. He says that such talk occasionally appears in Croatia purely to test the public pulse.

- They are checking the impulses and the extent to which something new can be done about it. If something needs to be done, then the Dayton Peace Agreement needs to be redrawn and we should return to the state of a normal country, which is a country that ensures normal functioning for all citizens of BiH. Simply put, BiH currently lacks the elementary things to function as a normal country – said Tanković.

He emphasized that he has always advocated for a unified BiH in his appearances and has never been in favor of any entity.

- Regarding the Croatian political scene, we can expect that from time to time someone from among them will speak about Croats getting a third entity. But, that is not the solution. I think that what Dayton has generally done for BiH is that it has practically brought BiH to a state where it cannot function normally on its own. Further disintegration of BiH can only worsen the situation in BiH – added Tanković.

We remind that Boro Grubišić (HDSSB) in the Croatian Parliament and some other opposition representatives called for the creation of a third entity in BiH. Grubišić assessed in the discussion on the report on Croatia's development aid abroad in 2012 that entry into full EU membership enables Croatia to actively participate in resolving issues of the Croatian people in BiH.

- With three entities, we have much less administration and a cheaper state, which all three nations will feel as their own, and this should not be spoken of timidly – said Grubišić. He also congratulated Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanović for visiting Mostar during the recent unrest in BiH. Such a discussion surprised many, and the representative of the Bosniak national minority Nedžad Hodžić in the Parliament accused the proponents of a third entity of drawing maps.
