Croatian MiGs escorted a passenger plane Boeing 747 of the Israeli company El-Al, flying from New York to Tel Aviv, through Croatian airspace due to a bomb threat on the flight, reports the news agency Patria.

Croatian MiGs were not the only ones involved in the operation. Foreign media report that Swiss FA-18 fighters also intercepted the plane. According to AFP, the plane landed safely in Israel escorted by military aircraft.

"Two combat aircraft of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence (HRZ and PZO) MiG 21 today, Tuesday, July 5, by order of the competent NATO command located in Torrejon, Spain (Combined Air Operations Centre – CAOC) intercepted an Israeli aircraft that entered Croatian airspace.

It was an Israeli Boeing 747 aircraft, which was on a flight from the USA to Israel, for which a report of a potential bomb threat was received. The competent NATO command issued an order shortly before 9:00 AM to escort the aircraft during its transit through the airspace of the Republic of Croatia, and the duty combat pair, from 9:07 AM to 9:20 AM, carried out the interception and escort from the entry point near Bregana to the exit point southeast of Slavonski Brod, according to the statement from the Ministry of Defence (MORH).
