Croatia seeks abolition of "white bread", stalled in BiH House of Peoples

The Croatian coalition MOST has announced it will work on abolishing certain privileges of deputies in the Croatian Parliament, including the abolition of the so-called "white bread", reports the BiH news agency Patria.

According to existing laws, deputies of the Croatian Parliament are entitled to compensation even after their term of office ends. A deputy, after the cessation of their duties and until they start receiving a salary from another source or until they meet the conditions for a parliamentary or old-age pension, is entitled to compensation for a period of six months, in the amount of the salary received by the deputy, or is entitled to compensation for the next six months, but reduced by 50 percent.

The initiative to abolish "white bread" was first launched in BiH last year. "White bread" has been abolished in several cantons in the FBiH, but not in the Federal and State Parliaments. The proposal to abolish "white bread" was passed by the House of Representatives of the PSBiH, but has not yet received approval from the House of Peoples, writes Patria.

CIN journalists calculated that 476 officials, over the past seven years, at all levels of government, have collected more than eight million KM from the state, for benefits!

One deputy from the Cantonal Assembly in the Central Bosnia Canton is the record holder for the number of times she used "white bread". She used this right three times and collected 52,000 KM from the state.
