Croatian President seeks talks with the US on changing Dayton

The President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, in Brussels, during a meeting with Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, requested amendments to the Dayton Peace Agreement. Grabar-Kitarović announced that Croatia will initiate talks and an initiative with the US, because the current European initiative cannot focus solely on economic and social processes, but must also be political. Grabar-Kitarović assessed that certain conditions should be set that BiH should fulfill to become fully functional and thus advance on the path to EU and NATO membership, and to regulate political relations at the country's level.

She asked President Juncker for the European Commission to help BiH in the reform process on the path to the EU, as well as in organizing the country with the aim that all three peoples are truly equal throughout the territory.

Many in BiH are wondering if these demands mean a veiled advocacy for a third entity? She expects the new Croatian Government to deal much more with BiH, emphasizing that this is not only Croatia's constitutional obligation towards Croats in BiH, but also a national interest.

- We have not sufficiently utilized the fact that we are a member of the EU and NATO so far, so we can strongly advocate for resolving issues within BiH – said Grabar-Kitarović.

It is unclear what the Croatian President will seek from the US. After the problematic attitude of official Zagreb towards Stolac, their attitude towards BiH is under suspicion. Some analysts believe that it is time for the pro-Bosnian bloc to engage on the same level. Namely, they believe that it is necessary to inform all friends of BiH about this initiative by Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and to oppose attempts to destroy the state, writes NAP.
