At the Bajakovo border crossing on Monday, customs officers stopped a VW Caddy with German license plates carrying one Turkish and one German citizen, reports the news agency Patria.
One of the customs officers, as reported by Croatian media, noticed that the bottom of the car was double-layered, so they moved the van aside and requested a search warrant from the investigating judge. In the Caddy, they found over 140 kilograms of heroin, distributed in 261 packages, which would reach a street price of 42 million kuna!
As announced by the Regional Customs Office in Osijek, this is the largest drug seizure at Bajakovo in the last ten years.
The drugs were attempted to be smuggled into Croatia by a 46-year-old Turkish citizen and a 26-year-old German citizen, it was stated at a press conference at the Vukovar-Srijem Police Administration.
According to the head of the Customs Office in Osijek, Davor Petović, the drugs were hidden in the modified floor of a Volkswagen Caddy passenger car driven by the 46-year-old Turkish citizen, with a 26-year-old co-driver, a German citizen of Turkish origin, beside him.
