
Croatia today got its 9th Parliament. MPs decided that Božo Petrov, an MP from the list of the Most Independent Lists party, will serve as the Speaker of Parliament.
Božo Petrov (1979.), a doctor, a specialist in psychiatry, comes to the position of Speaker of the Croatian Parliament from the position of Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia. Of the 145 MPs in Parliament, 132 voted "for", one "against", and 12 were "abstain".
In his address to Parliament, Petrov spoke about commitment to "preserving democratic standards in the future work of the Croatian Parliament" and "restoring citizens' trust in the Croatian Parliament".
- Our task is also the further enhancement of the Croatian Parliament as a fundamental component of the political system - he emphasized.
He also announced the strengthening of cooperation activities with the public and all segments of society in order to improve the transparency and credibility of the Croatian Parliament. He also emphasized that he will advocate for strengthening the role of Parliament within the European Union and added that his intention is also to strengthen the role of parliamentary diplomacy.
