(Patria) - This year's tourist season is causing great concern for our neighbors. Compared to the pre-coronavirus "golden times" of tourism in Croatia, this July has brought a worse tourist picture compared to 2019. As reported by N1 Croatia, the main question that tourism accommodation providers are asking themselves this year is whether they have set prices too high?
As we previously reported, many private accommodations on the Croatian coast have been forced to lower the prices of their services due to a low number of reservations. Therefore, in Croatia, it is possible to get many "last minute" offers for up to half the price, according to experts.
According to her, Dalmatia as a tourist destination is "collapsing" due to the sharp price reductions and "last minute" offers, even though accommodation was even more expensive last year, writes N1 Croatia.
We recently discussed prices in Croatia with one of the greatest experts on Croatian tourism. In an interview with N1, he also talks about the concretization and apartmentization of Croatian tourism, prices, overcrowding, and the pitfalls of Croatian tourism. Is Croatia already a victim of mass tourism?
Confusion in Dalmatia
There is real chaos regarding accommodation prices in Dalmatia, the Association is convinced, seeing the solution in limiting accommodation units. Everything indicates that this will be included in the reform of Croatian tourism that the neighbors are announcing for next year. The introduction of ecological taxes for tourists and limiting the number of tourists in certain popular destinations are just some of the possible measures.
Already in Makarska, they are advocating for the limitation of unregistered beds. Some data indicate that the local population in Makarska offers more than 10,000 unregistered beds. The Deputy Mayor of Makarska, Antonia Radić-Brkan, is clear: "I think the law should publicly differentiate between hosts in private family accommodation, subtenants, and real estate businesses".
Residents are concerned about the small number of apartments intended for the local population. There are practically no apartments for living, and at the same time, tourist demand is increasing the regular rental price of those apartments that are still available for non-commercial purposes, believes the Deputy Mayor. Many families in Croatia cannot find a regular apartment on the coast.
